Bio:Tiffany A. Nelson joined the firm of Ancel, Glink, Diamond, Bush, DiCianni and Krafthefer, P.C., as an associate in January 2008. She received her Bachelors of Arts from the Illinois Institute of Technology where she graduated in 1999 with honors. Ms. Nelson is a 2002 graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago Kent College of Law with a certificate in Labor and Employment Law.
Prior to her employment with Ancel, Glink, Diamond, Bush, DiCianni and Krafthefer, P.C., Ms. Nelson was an associate attorney at Odelson & Sterk, Ltd. During her employment with Odelson & Sterk, Ltd., Ms. Nelson served as the lead negotiator in collective bargaining with a variety of unions representing public employees such as public works employees, clerical staff, code enforcement officers, and college professors. She has negotiated collective bargaining agreements with unions representing municipal police officers, firefighters, and telecommunicators. Ms. Nelson has bargained initial contracts as well as successor contracts. In addition to her collective bargaining experience, Ms. Nelson has also represented her clients in grievance arbitration matters, employment litigation, representation proceedings, and unfair labor practice hearings. She has prevailed on a number of dispositive motions regarding the Illinois Tort Immunity Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and general local governmental liability in both state and federal court.
Ms. Nelson has served as both the appointed student disciplinary hearing officer for Cook County School District No. 130 as well as a municipal code hearing officer for a variety of municipalities.
During the course of her representation of local governmental clients, Ms. Nelson has advised her clients on employee discipline, personnel matters, grievance processing, and compliance with collective bargaining agreements. Some of these matters include advising clients regarding due process compliance in employee discipline and discharge cases and compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws, such as the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans With Disabilities Act, and the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act.
While in law school, Ms. Nelson was a student-editor for the Illinois Public Employee Relations Report from 2001 through 2002 and also served as a research assistant to Martin Malin, Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for Law and the Workplace. Through these positions, Ms. Nelson gained familiarity and knowledge of the law as well as the policies and procedures of the various state and federal labor boards and administrative agencies.
