Bio: Lucy B. Bednarek received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude with honors, from Loyola University of Chicago, and her Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University School of Law. She is a member of the bars of the State of Illinois, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Federal District Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Ms. Bednarek is also a member of the trial bar of the Federal Court of the Northern District of Illinois.
Ms. Bednarek's practice concentrates on the defense of civil rights, employment, and tort litigation against governmental bodies and officials, including municipalities, school districts and park districts. She has successfully represented governmental entities and their employees at the trial and appellate level in both state and federal court, and before the Illinois Human Rights Commission. She has also successfully tried cases to verdict before the Federal District Court for the Northern District, the Federal District Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Ms. Bednarek is the co-editor of the defense litigation group's online newsletter, Ancel Glink Defense E-News, which advises clients on the latest court decisions and legislative changes in Illinois. She also frequently writes on tort immunity, civil rights, school law and employment issues. She contributed to the Illinois Governmental Tort Immunity Handbook, published by Ancel, Glink, Diamond, Bush, DiCianni & Krafthefer, P.C. and a Police and Fire Department chapter for the Municipal Law and Practice handbook published by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education. She is the co-author of the article, The Student Records Act: To Keep or Not to Keep, published in the IDC Quarterly by the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, and was a speaker at the 2006 IASB/IASA/Illinois ASBO Joint Annual Conference: Free Speech in School—How Free Is It?
