Prior to joining Ancel, Glink, Ellen was Associate General Counsel and Director of Litigation for Metra, Chicago's commuter railroad. She was lead counsel in many governmental tort immunity, employment, civil rights, constitutional, tort, and commercial litigation matters in defending Metra as a quasi-governmental entity, and developed its most successful litigation strategies. Ellen was also instrumental in developing and implementing new investigative procedures as well as accident and catastrophic response procedures to lessen potential liabilities and improve relations between Law, Claims, Police, and other departments. While at Metra, Ms. Emery was also trained in media relations in order to deal with sensitive issues receiving press coverage.

Prior to Metra, Ellen was a litigation partner at the Chicago law firm of Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, as well as a Special Assistant States' Attorney for Cook County. Her practice was primarily concentrated in general corporate representation and civil and commercial litigation for clients ranging from closely-held companies to Fortune 100 and international corporations. Lauderdale, Florida, and has served as a Judge for the National Appellate Advocacy Competition finals for the American Bar Association.
