Bio:David M. Lefkow represents public and private sector employers in employment/based lawsuits in both state and federal court and before various governmental agencies. He has handled cases involving race, national origin, age and disability discrimination, sexual harassment, restrictive covenants and workers’ compensation retaliation. He has argued dozens of arbitration cases involving all aspects of contract interpretation and discipline.

Mr. Lefkow assists employers in reducing the risk of litigation by giving advice on a variety of employment-related topics. He has served as the de factor human resources department for small and medium-sized employers. In his consulting role, he has given advice on topics including the Americans With Disabilities Act, Family and Medical leave Act and other state and federal laws governing the employment process. He also assists employers in developing strategies to insure exemptions from overtime, the handling of disciplinary issues and development best personnel policies and practices. Mr. Lefkow has drafted numerous employee handbooks, employment contracts and non-competition agreements and a wide range of policy and procedure documents and forms.

Mr. Lefkow has negotiated more than 150 collective bargaining agreements for bargaining units ranging from two to 10,000 employees, involving most major international unions. Mr. Lefkow has substantial experience at the National Labor Relations Board and the Illinois Public Labor Relations Board handling ULP charges and union elections and UC petitions. He has assisted numerous employers in maintaining a union-free environment.

A featured speaker in numerous seminars and conferences on labor and employment topics, he also has given numerous presentations to individual employers and their employees on a variety of employment-related topics including overtime, sexual harassment, e-mail usage, Internet-use policies and supervisory training.
